Phyllite is a metamorphic rock, which has been formed by shale that was exposed to metamorphosis. Phyllite is in between slate and schist looking at the metamorophic grade. Phyllite contains the minerals Quartz and Mica. Due to its layered origin Phyllite is easy to split.
